SOCIAL CONCERNS COMMITTEE

"Whatever you do for the least of my brethren, that you do unto me."

Mission:  The social concerns ministry at Sts. Anne & Joachim invites all parishioners to participate in activities to promote social concern for all those in need within our parish, our community, our diocese, our country, and our world.  The purpose of this ministry is to encourage all members of our parish to live out the social teachings of the Catholic faith.  We pursue this goal through prayer, discussion, acts of service, and participation in the democratic process.

Meetings:  Third Monday of each month (Sept.-May),  7:00 p.m., Sts. Anne & Joachim Breakfast Nook or St. Joseph's Room

Opportunities:

• Learn more about Catholic social teaching

• Volunteer with Churches United for the Homeless and other selected agencies

• Participate in parish and community charity or service projects

• Write letters, email, or call public officials on issues of social justice

Social Concerns Ministry Projects:

• Serve at Churches United for the Homeless (2nd Wednesday of even-numbered months)

• Serve at Churches United for the Homeless Christmas Store

• Collection of donations and needed items for Churches United for the Homeless

• Letter-writing network for social justice issues

• The Socks Project: collection of new socks for the homeless and needy

• Volunteer Days for parishioners in need

• Informational tour of FirstChoice Clinic

• Advent Giving Tree: providing items for FirstChoice Clinic, Churches United for the Homeless, Dorothy Day House, Sister Jan's Emergency Foster Care, and Parish Outreach

• Coordinating youth service projects

• Coordinating spring and fall collection drives for the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store

• Establishing a link to the local Habitat for Humanity program

• Elim Nursing Home Halloween and Valentine's Day BINGO parties

• Remember Our Soldiers project

• Thanksgiving collection for hunger causes

• Operation Rice Bowl

• Support for Father Jack Davis Mission Work
